This is why Baseball players choke and lose confidence

First off, you put way too much pressure on yourself.

Why?

Your answer is because “I want to do well.”

I get it, but…

The problem is you’re making yourself anxious by hyper-focusing on results.

Your fear of failure, letting coaches down, teammates down, and parents down doesn’t help.

And…

Baseball players who are anxious and “stressed out” overthink everything.

Overthinking makes you get in your head.

This causes you to “not feel like yourself.”

You play tight, throw skyballs, and swing at bad pitches.

Or…

Just don’t swing at all!

And…

Feeling “uncomfortable” keeps you from playing the way you know how.

Then…

You make mistakes you typically would NEVER make in practice.

Am I right so far?

Yes!!!

What happens next is…

You make one mistake, can’t let go of it, and make yet another.

Mistakes cause you to start doubting yourself, and you lose confidence.

When you stop believing in yourself your mind starts telling lies.

“I suck”
“I’ve lost it.”
“I’ll never get recruited.”

Lies, lies, lies!!!

Catch is…

You start believing the lies because…

The mind ONLY  sees the evidence that supports what you believe.

This vicious cycle begins to spiral out of control.

Teammates, parents, and coaches start saying…

“You don’t look like yourself out there.”

So…

Your coach and parents tell you to take a deep breathe.

You do… then you try even harder.

So you put even more pressure on yourself.

Now you’re deep into what I call, The Vortex!

Repetitive negative thoughts consume you.

You focus on “not screwing up.”

The problem is your subconscious mind hears, “screw up.”

You end up making even more mistakes.

At this point, you aren’t getting the results you are expected to get.

Feelings of guilt, shame, humiliation, and embarrassment creep in.

Damn, these feelings suck!

You feel like all you do is let your team down, your coach down, and your parents down.

What’s worse is…

You let yourself down and begin question your love for the game.

But here’s the thing…

You’re still a very skilled and talented ball player.

It’s just your talent is buried behind a hyper-active nervous system that simply needs some reprogramming.

You’ve tried the old way of breathwork, meditation, and even medication but it hasn’t worked the way you had hoped.
